about our class

Be on time

bring supplies

write, write, write

Getting to class on time is very important. Each time you are late to class you will be marked tardy. As those add up you will face consequences such as lunch detention, SRR, etc.

Bring all necessary supplies with you to class each and every day. You will be responsible for having your pencil, pen(s) and writing folder filled with your classwork, notes & lined paper as well as having your iPad charged.

Throughout the year we will be covering the major writing styles as well as building upon our current knowledge of the many grammar usage rules. Be prepared to write and write often.

be involved

You will be required to be involved in class. This means participating in class discussions, whiteboard activities, peer editing essays and much more . We will have many opportunities where you will contribute to our learning environment.

writing folder

All of your work for writing class will be stored in your writing folder and will be brought to class daily. You will be responsible for keeping up with it and making sure that it is organized. There may be a folder check every 9 weeks.

There is a zero cheating/plagiarism policy in our classroom. If you have copied a peer's paper or taken information off of the internet without correclty citing it you will be given a zero on the assigment as well as an SRR.

cheating/plagiarism

RAISE YOUR HAND

In order for each of our ideas to be heard it is going to be our classroom practice that we raise a hand to answer or ask a question, to contribute to class discussions or to simply get out of your seat during class time (sharpen pencil or get a tissue). If you cannot adhear to the rules there will be consequences.

stay seated

During class, you need to stay seated unless otherwise instructed by your teacher. It is extreemly distracting when students get up in the middle of class. No one is to be wandering around the classroom. There will be times we will be up and moving around; I'll let you know when that is.

come on in

As you enter the classroom you are to get situated in your seat quielty and get started on warm ups. You only have the first 5 mintues of class to get this task completed. There is to be no standing or walking around the room talking to one another. We want each class to start off successful. Come in and be quiet.

keep up in reading

be kind

You're reading and writing class go hand-in-hand. So much so that what we write about is what you are reading. If you are not paying attention in one, chances are you will not do well in the other. Pay attention in both classes.

Be creative

In our class it is certain that you will have plenty of chances to be creative with your writing. Afterall, writing is a creative process. We will take part in one writing contest in the fall and two writing contests in the spring.

Manners and simply being kind to one another is going to be key in our classroom. Please and thank you go a long way! Be kind to your teachers, administrators and peers.
